[back] |
|
| The importance of the PADI Divemaster to the overall PADI Training

|
- Has a high level of diving skills.
- Understands a great deal about diving theory
- Has a significant amount of experience helping train student divers
- Is able to assume a tremendous amount of responsibility for the welfare of other divers in his/her care
|
| Many Dive masters will eventually go on to become PADI Instructors,
and it is the experience and training gained through the Divemaster course that shape their ability
and attitude as professional diving educators. |
|
| Target Objectives |
|
- To enable the candidate to organise, conduct and supervise recreational diving activities, both shore and boat based.
- To enable the candidate to effectively act as an instructional assistant to a certified PADI Openwater Scuba Instructor.
- To develop the candidates theoretical diving knowledge to a level sufficient to become an Instructor.

|
| The PADI Divemaster Program is designed to train individuals as
supervisory personnel for Openwater diving activities. In this role, the Divemaster may oversee
general diving activities, serve as an underwater guide or as an instructional assistant.
Divemaster training consists of three instructional modules which may be taught concurrently.
These modules include: |
|
- Skill assessment
- Knowledge development
- Internship
|
| Course Overview |
|
| MODULE ONE: Watermanship and Skill Assessment |
|
| This segment is to be conducted in a pool or confined openwater
environment. The time frame is dependent on the number of candidates, their abilities and available
facilities. |
|
| MODULE TWO: Knowledge Development |
|
| The format and therefore the schedule of this segment may vary from
formal classroom study to a self-directed program of study done at the candidate's convenience.
Specific learning objectives and topic outlines are provided to indentify areas of importance and
to direct the teaching activities. Understanding is assessed through the PADI Divemaster exams. |
|
| MODULE THREE: Internship |
|
| The internship module requires the candidate to act as an instructional
assistant during both pool and openwater training sessions. The scheduling is flexible and is dependent
upon student motivation and logistical considerations. To accelerate the training process the candidate
may wish to assist more than one Instructor. An Internship Evaluation form (detailed later) should be
filled out at the conclusion of each session. |
