Course Overview
The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is an integral step in the professional diver’s pathway, bridging the gap between Divemaster and Open Water Scuba Instructor. This course focuses on developing your teaching skills, enhancing your ability to conduct PADI programs independently, and preparing you for the full Instructor Development Course (IDC).
Course Objectives and Structure
The program combines theoretical knowledge development with practical teaching experiences, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of PADI's educational philosophy and the ability to apply it effectively.
Knowledge Development
Participants will engage in interactive learning sessions covering dive theory, PADI Standards, and the fundamentals of student-centered learning. This knowledge base is essential for understanding the principles behind the PADI System of diver education and how to adapt it to various learning environments.
Teaching Assignments
A significant component of the course involves practical teaching assignments. Candidates will practice:
- Conducting confined water teaching presentations, honing their skills in demonstrating and evaluating student performance.
- Presenting knowledge development teaching segments, learning to effectively communicate dive theory to students.
- Assisting with Open Water Diver course training, gaining real-world experience in managing students in an open water setting.
These assignments are designed to build confidence in your teaching abilities and prepare you for the responsibilities of a PADI Instructor.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the Assistant Instructor course, candidates receive the PADI Assistant Instructor certification. This qualification enables you to teach certain PADI programs independently and is a crucial step towards achieving the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating.
