The PADI Rescue Diver course is for suitably qualified divers seeking to advance their skills and knowledge to effectively handle dive emergencies and assist in diver safety. This challenging yet rewarding course builds upon the skills learned in previous certifications, focusing on preventing problems and managing dive emergencies through a combination of theoretical learning and practical rescue scenarios.

Course Structure

The Rescue Diver course is structured to develop your skills in self-rescue, recognising and managing stress in other divers, managing emergency situations, and performing a variety of rescue techniques. It consists of two primary components: knowledge development and practical application.

This covers topics such as dive emergency management, stress recognition, emergency planning, and first aid procedures for diving incidents. This theoretical foundation is crucial for understanding the principles of dive rescue.

Practical Application

The heart of the course lies in its practical application, where divers engage in a series of rescue exercises and scenarios designed to simulate real-life dive emergencies. These include exercises in self-rescue, rescuing panicked divers, unresponsive diver rescue, and emergency management. This hands-on training is essential for building confidence and competence in potential rescue situations.

Upon successful completion of the knowledge development sessions, rescue exercises, and two rescue scenarios, divers are awarded the PADI Rescue Diver certification. This certification is a pivotal step in a diver's journey, signifying a diver's ability to effectively handle dive emergencies and contribute positively to diver safety.
